Condolence: Mary and I are sorry to hear that Richard is no longer amongst us. Our sincere condolences to Marilyn, Diane, Kay and David. We knew Richard and the Edsall family from the Presbyterian Church. We remember Richard as a friendly and unpretentious man. A person one would like to call a friend.

Condolence: I worked with Richard as a staff photographer from 1969 until I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971. I was right out of high school and enrolled at Marshalltown Community College as a journalism student. He was a friend and mentor who was very patient with a green very fresh young photojournalist.

He pointed me in the right direction, not to mention shielding me from the wrath of the senior (very nasty) editor in chief.
