Richard Edsall, age 82, of Louisville, CO, formerly of Marshalltown, IA passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Balfour Hospice Care Center in Louisville, CO.
Celebration of life services were held at the United Methodist Church, Louisville, CO. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Richard was born on May 22, 1929, in Marshalltown, IA to Ralph and Rilla Edsall. He was raised and educated in Marshall County, IA graduating from Green Mountain High School in 1946. He attended Marshalltown Community College and Drake University, Des Moines, IA. In 1951 he was drafted into the Army Signal Corps, taking basic training and non-commissioned officer’s training at Fort Riley, KS. He served 18 months in Korea, furnishing radio teletype communications for the Korean War Truce Talks. Richard was united in marriage to Marilyn Hoffmann on June 12, 1955, in Wheatland, IA. The Edsall’s owned and operated the Edsall Photographic Studio in Webster City, IA from 1957 to 1967. He was the initial Instructor of Photography at Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo, IA from 1967 to 1968. Richard was Chief Photographer at the Marshalltown Times-Republican from 1968 to 1972. The Edsall’s owned and operated the Edsall Printing Service in Marshalltown, IA from 1972 through 1988. The Edsall’s were resident managers of the Odd Fellows Apartments in Marshalltown from 1989 until retiring in 1992. In retirement, they traveled coast to coast in their Winnebago RV and driving the Alcan Highway to Alaska. They enjoyed wintering in their RV in Texas and Arizona for ten years where Richard was Flower Gardener for an RV Park in the Rio Grande Valley for four winters. They were active bird watchers, being members of the Central Iowa Ornithologists Club. Other interests included oil painting and creative cooking and served on the Board of Directors of the Marshalltown Community Theater. He was an active member of the Parkinson Disease Support Group of Marshalltown, IA. The Edsalls moved to Louisville, CO in 2010 to be near children and grandchildren.

Richard will be missed by his wife, Marilyn, of Louisville; two daughters, Kay (Jeff) Gazaway of Louisville, and Diane Adams of Fayetteville, AR; one son, David (Jodie) of Louisville; and three grandchildren Ben and Emily Gazaway and Zeb Adams; and a sister Marlyne (Carrol) Bryant of Edinburg, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents.
