Mabel Evelsizer Bryant, 106, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Boone County Hospital in Boone, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until the time of the services at the church. Mabel was born March 19, 1904 to Charles and Ida (Wills) Teagarden in Dana, IA. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1922. She received her BA in teaching at age 58 in California. She was united in marriage to William Evelsizer in 1928 in Jefferson. He died in 1943. She later married James Bryant in 1967 in Garden Grove, CA. He died in 2001. Following high school, Mabel taught country school for a few years and then farmed in the Jefferson area along with her first husband until his death. She then returned to teaching in California, retiring in 1969. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. She loved to cook and was known for winning the chili cook-offs at church.

Mabel will be missed by her son, Jerry (Mary) Evelsizer of Ogden, IA, her daughter, Jo (Carroll) Johnson of Lake Panorama, IA, seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded id death by nine brothers and sisters.
