Lola K. Nielsen, 96, of Marshalltown , entered into eternal life, December 31, 2010 at Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale Iowa. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 26, 2011 at First United Church of Christ in Marshalltown. Inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. A reception and celebration of her life will be held at the church following inurnment services at the cemetery. Born March 9, 1914 in Dysart Iowa. Lola was the daughter of Nathan and Alma (Hix) Burhenn. She graduated from Dysart High School and Deaconess School of Nursing in 1935. On December 20, 1936 she was united in marriage to Earl Nielsen of Garwin. The couple farmed near Garwin until 1944 when they moved to Marshalltown where she continued her nursing career. Lola was an active member of First United Church of Christ and Lydia Circle. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister. Lola loved to play bridge and was the last surviving member of a bridge club that met for 70 years.
Lola will be dearly missed by her daughters; Virginia K. (Dale) Anderson of Urbandale and Margaret L. (Joseph) DeLeonardi of Santa Clarita, CA., her 3 grandchildren; Scott Anderson of Urbandale, Jennifer Earley of Eagan, MN. and Katherine Castagnola of San Diego, CA., 3 great-grandchildren; Megan, Matthew and Joe and several nieces and nephews.
In eternal life Lola has been reunited with her husband, Earl, her parents and 3 sisters; Lois Amos, Gladys Larson and Eva Krause.
