Robert "Bob"  Turnbull
Robert Vernon “Bob” Turnbull, 77, of Marshalltown, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday December 30, 2009 at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Private Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be sent to the family at vogelfuneralhomes.com.
Robert was born November 16, 1932,the son of Raymond and Anna (Thompson) Turnbull in Van Cleve,Iowa. He graduated from Van Cleve High School in 1950 and from a local Junior College in 1952.
Bob joined the Army right after college and served during the Korean War. Bob married Elaine Hall in 1959.
Over the years Bob either owned and operated or managed many local cafe's and eating establishements in Marshalltown, icluding Bob's Cafe on Sth. 3rd., Van's Cafe on Hwy. 30 & 14 and Chippewa Lanes. Bob retired due to failing health in the late 1990's.
Bob was a member of the Moose Lodge. He really enjoyed bowling, sometimes five nights a week and played softball for many years. His fondest pastime was gardening and canning but especially raising irises his favorite flower.
Bob will be missed by his four daughters; Holly (Mike), Leslie (Kenny), Chelle (Tex) and Robin, one son; Sean (Valerie) Turnbull, two brothers; George (Verlo) of Burlington and Raymond of Marshalltown, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In eternal life he joins his parents, two sisters; Eileen and Maida,one brother; William, grandson; Jesse Robert Snyder and great grandson Jesse Kincaid Snyder.
