Goldie E.  Thursby
Goldie E. McMeekin Thursby, age 94, of Marshalltown formerly of Rhodes, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Hope United Methodist Church, Marshalltown. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. till 7:00 p.m. Tuesday December 22, 2009, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will be present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be sent to the family at vogelfuneralhomes.com.
Goldie was born December 18, 1915, the daughter of James and Rachel (Bates) Mc Meekin in Laurel, Iowa. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1934.
She married Willard V. Thursby of Rhodes on November 10, 1937. The couple lived in Rhodes for six years, in Tama for five years and one year in Monticilla. In the fall of 1949 they moved back to Rhodes where she resided till moving to Marshalltown in 1985
She was a member of the Rhodes United Methodist Church. She was also a former member of The Order of the Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodge of Rhodes.
Goldie worked part time for the Donnelly Corporation in Nevada for ten years, the Kiowa Corporation, Marshall county facility and later ten years at the Iowa Veterans Home. Goldie retired in January of 1983.
Goldie will be missed by her two daughters; Colleen (Michael) Weiser and Kathleen (Dale) Fouch, both of Marshalltown, two granddaughters; Stacey (Jeff) Nichols of Liscomb, Ellen Samuel (Todd) Weiser of Oak Brook, Illinois, two grandsons; David (Angie) Fouch of Altoona and Mark (Dawn) Fouch of Cedar Rapids, three great grandsons, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
In eternal life she joins her husband Willard, her grandson Todd Weiser, three brothers and two sisters.
