Leonard “Lenny” Underhill, 58, of LeGrand, IA died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 5, 2009, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M., with a 6:00 P.M. vigil service followed by a Rosary, Sunday, October 4, 2009, at St. Henry Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.vogelfuneralhomes.com. Lenny was born on July 31, 1951, in Americus, Indiana to Edward and Ruth (Fawley) Underhill. He was raised in the Burlington and Lafyette, IN area. In 1966, he moved to the rural Marshalltown area, to be raised by his sister and brother-in-law Jean and Merle Ridout. He graduated from LDF High School in LeGrand, IA in 1970, where he was a state wrestling champion that year. He went on to wrestle at Westmar College in LeMars, IA, where he received a degree in business. On August 19, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart Cathy Tichy, in Marshalltown. Lenny was an independent insurance agent for many years, serving central Iowa. Most recently he was an insurance and billing manager for SportsPlus Physical Theory and Rehab Center in Marshalltown. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church where he was involved in many activities. He was also active in many community activities, most recently retiring last year after 29 years as the on field play-by-play announcer for the East Marshall football team. He was proud to have started the little Warhawk wrestling program in the early 1980’s. He was always available to assist anyone who needed help. He was truly the Lord’s servant.

Lenny will be dearly missed by his wife of 37 years, Cathy; one son, Chad (Amanda) Underhill of Washington, IA; two daughters, Lisa (Joel) Schmidt and Sarah Underhill both of Clive, IA; two granddaughters, Clair Underhill and Lucy Schmidt; five sisters, Jean Ridout and Juanita Gile, both of Marshalltown, Shirley Johns of Tacoma, WA, Sandy Anderson of Monticello, IN, Carol (Larry) Adams of Lafayette, IN; four brothers, Duane (Denise) Underhill and Tom (Sheryl) Underhill both of Marshalltown, Bob (Jeannie) Underhill and Dennis (Vicki) Underhill both of LeGrand, IA; his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Tichy of Marshalltown, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth Underhill Edwards; father-in-law, George Tichy; two sisters, Patsy Underhill and Marlene Baker; three brothers, Eddie, Vernon, and Steve Underhill.
