Obituary for Lynn Rene' Zern

Lynn Rene’ Zern was born on September 26, 1958 in Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald K. and Margo Jean (Happe) Brockmeyer. She lived at Lake Center until the age of three, and attended kindergarten and first grade at Lake Park, Iowa. Her family later moved to Victor, Iowa for four years, and in 1970, moved to Lost Island Lake near Ruthven. She attended Sacred Heart School in Spencer for one year. The remainder of her school years were in the Terril Community Schools where she graduated in 1977. Lynn attended Iowa State University for two years, and on August 4, 1979, she was united in marriage to Scott William Zern in Ruthven, Iowa. They lived in Webster City, Langdon, and Armstrong, Iowa, before moving to the Conrad Community in 1985.

Lynn cared for their three children and provided daycare for several others. After her children were in school she was employed by the BCLUW Schools as an aide, secretary to the Athletic Director, and as an assistant softball, basketball and volleyball coach. She has been Main Street Program Director for the city of Conrad for the past thirteen years. Her activities include the Booster Club, St. Henry Church, Jaycees, and After Prom Committee.


Lynn is survived by her husband: Scott Zern of Conrad; her three children: Angie (Dan) Dickinson of Ankeny; Tim Zern and Amy Zern, both of Cedar Falls; her parents: Ron & Margo Brockmeyer of Ruthven; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Don & Cloris Zern of Conrad; three brothers: Paul (Tanya) Brockmeyer of Chandler, Arizona, Tom (Paula) Brockmeyer of Buford, Georgia, and Keith (Sharma) Brockmeyer of Spirit Lake; two sisters: Lorrie (Mike) Patton of Hudson and Mary Beth (Scott) Neff of Beaman; brother-in-law: Jack (Danice) Zern of Conrad; sister-in-law: Cathy (John) Geake of Lake View; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Leo and Jesse Happe; and paternal grandparents:Ben & Mae Brockmeyer.
