Robert J.  Klein
Robert “Bob” John Klein, 63, of Conrad, IA died on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad. The family will host a luncheon and time of fellowship at noon at the Conrad American Legion on Monday, September 17, 2012. Memorials may be directed to Grundy County Pheasants Forever, Grundy County Memorial Hospital, or Cedar Valley Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to www.vogelfuneralhomes.com

The son of James and Rose (Cox) Klein, Bob was born on July 8, 1949 in Adrian, MN. He grew up in rural Adrian, MN receiving his education at St. Adrian School graduating in 1967. Bob received his BA from Dakota State College, in Madison, SD. On September 5, 1970 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Johnson at Grace Lutheran Church in Parker, SD. Bob was in the Iowa National Guard Unit in Marshalltown, IA, from 1972-1980 he graduated from Officers Candidate School in Des Moines, IA and in Boone Unit, Fort Dodge reserves as 1st Lieutenant. From 1971 until 1975 Bob taught school and coached at BCL High School, Conrad, IA. He then worked for Clemens Seed Company as Production Manager before being a salesman for FS Farm Service. Bob was an Independent Insurance Agent and Real Estate Broker from 1979 until
present. He was a member of the Conrad American Legion Post #681, serving as Adjutant and Legion Baseball Manager for many years. Bob was a past President of the Conrad Lions Club, member of Conrad Main Street, and served on the Oakview Nursing Home Board in Conrad. He was also a member of 40 & 8. In 1987 Bob and his family moved to rural Conrad. He enjoyed watching and tending to the 30,000 trees, which he and his family planted along the creek, pond and yard. Time with his grandchildren was very important to him. He enjoyed playing and watching golf, basketball and baseball.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife JoAnn, son Kevin, Viborg, SD, daughter Mary and her husband Jeff Chadwick, Westmont,IL, AFS son, Paddy Posing, of Luxemborg, 6 grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Lani, Gavin, Hailey and Katelyn, Great Grandson’s Mihkail and Kaden, his mother Rose, Springfield, MO, a sister Patricia Ross and husband Jon, Hutchinson,MN, a brother Jay, Worthington, MN, brother Fr. Eugene Klein, Springfield, MO, brother Jack and his wife Mary, Apple Valley, MN, a sister Kathy Lais and her husband Paul, Springfield, MO, brother Mike and his wife Janet Schafer, Rochester, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father James Klein, sister Therese Koudelka, father-in-law Robert Johnson, mother-in-law Bernice Johnson and nephew Lee Stratmeyer.
