Raymond L.  Barker
Raymond L. Barker, 93, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Faith Assembly of God in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Faith Assembly of God. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care has been entrusted with the arrangements. Raymond was born July 1, 1918 to Ollie Ray and Alda (Bennett) Barker in Marshalltown. He was educated in the Marshalltown schools. Raymond was united in marriage to Lillian Scovill on November 25, 1938 in Anamosa, IA. She died March 31, 1981.He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific Theater. Raymond operated as an independent trucker in his early years before taking employment for Alkire & Eastern Truck Lines. He then worked many years in construction with Trowbridge Construction Company. He went on to own and operate the restaurant located in the bus depot, before taking a position with the Iowa Liquor Commission from where he retired in 1986. He then worked with his friend Ron Hayes for several years assisting in bringing "Arkansas Beauty's" used cars to Marshalltown. Raymond was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church. He was a life time member of the American Legion and past member of the Moose Lodge. Raymond enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved tinkering with autos and mechanical equipment of all kinds with his friends and was well known for his "Yankee ingenuity". When he became unable to be out and about with his preferred routine, his favorite pastime became watching the Chicago Cubs games, Wheel of Fortune, westerns and old TV reruns.

Raymond will be missed by three daughters; Janet Kay (Robert) Kelderman, Shirley Ann (Floyd) Borton, Sharon Rae (William) Roads, all of Marshalltown. thirteen grandchildren; Debra (Robert Freeman) Kelderman, Marty Kelderman, David (Erica) Kelderman, Sheri (Doug) McCann, Carla (Warren) Schmidt, Brian (Kathleen) Borton, Denise Balot, Melissa (Andy) Eich, Jerry (Patti) Barker, Susan (Robbie) Neuroth, Ronda Barker, Karen (Michael) Nablo, Kandy (Justin) Glenney., thirty eight great grandchildren, and twenty nine great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, parents, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three son in laws, four sisters, and a brother.
