Hope Garland, age 87, of the Iowa Veterans Home and long time resident of Marshall County passed away Monday morning, March 12, 2012. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 15 at Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Memorial donations to honor Hope may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home.
Hope was born December 30, 1924 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Paul and Myrtle Gurwell.
On March 9, 1946, Hope was united in marriage to Milford Garland in Des Moines. She was a homemaker. She had many hobbies and loved doing crafts, drawing, sketching, attending family activities, sporting events, cooking for her family, and gardening. Everyone who met her loved her.
Beloved wife for 66 years to Milford Garland and loving mother to Jim (Laureen) of Marshalltown, Kathy (John) West of Laurel, Teri (Bill) Beck of Garwin, Stephani (John) Siemens of San Antonio, TX, Pat (Nancy) of Marshalltown and Carrie Espe of Ankeny. She will be missed by her brother Mickey Gurwell and was a loving grandmother to 18 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Hope joins in eternal life her 4 siblings, Jeanie Gurwell, John Gurwell, Paul Gurwell, Bette Martin, and her granddaughter Natasha.
