Jane was born January 28, 1918 in Marshalltown to Edward T. Worden Jr. and Rose Marie (Lang) Worden. On April 17, 1941, Jane and Donald Joseph Gaffney, a mechanical and design engineer working at Fisher Governor, were married at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Jane graduated from St. Mary School in 1936, attended Clarke College in Dubuque and Central Iowa Business College. She worked as a secretary for Harold Cartwright of Boardman, Druker, Cartwright law firm and Farm Bureau Insurance, an administrative assistant for KFJB, and as a page for the Iowa Legislature for Rep. John Knutson. She contributed in many capacities to church and school, being a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and PTA. She was also a member of MMSC Hospital Auxiliary, and delivered Meals on Wheels with Don.
Jane's fondest memories were of her own family growing up and with the children and grandchildren born to bring her great joy. She lavished all with love and kindness, wonderful German meals and playing the classics on piano. Music was fundamental in her family and she played the organ at church celebrations for many years. Her legacy will shine brightly for years to come.
Jane will be dearly missed by her husband of 70 years, Don, 2 children; Judy (John) Egnew, Jerry (Cheri) Gaffney, 6 grandchildren; Jami (John) Meilahn, Jill (Dave) Thorman, Melissa Heddens, Michael (Abbey) Egnew, Morgan Gaffney, Taylor Gaffney, 15 great-grandchildren, sister Barbara (Glenn) Ytzen, and Beverly (and the late Richard) Duffy.
In eternal life Jane joins her parents Ed and Rose, brothers; Bob (Thelma) Worden and Jim (LaVonne) Worden.
