Jerry Dean Nichols Jr., 40, formerly of Marshalltown, IA passed away Friday, October 7, 2011, in Texas. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 9, 2011, in Texas. Local funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Peace United Church of Christ, in Gladbrook, IA. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m., until the time of the services at the church. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook is entrusted with arrangements.
Jerry Dean Nichols, Jr., was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, August 30, 1971, the son of Charlotte and Jerry Dean Nichols, Sr. He accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age while attending Central Iowa Christian Academy. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, swimming, skiing, skateboarding, biking, picture puzzles, coin and stamp collecting, video and computer games, movies and music.
From the time Jerry was two years old his father fought Huntington’s Disease. Jerry began his 16 year battle with the disease while serving as a Medic in the Army and had to return home after three years.
Jerry had a friendly generous nature and loved to talk with people. His favorite topic was sharing the message of salvation and the love that Jesus offers everyone. When he was no longer able to reach out to others, the Lord provided him safe and comfortable surroundings, compassionate care givers, praying friends, and a loving and caring family.
Jerry will be dearly missed by his mother, Charlotte (Roger) Dreessen of Luling,TX, sisters; Lori (Joseph) LaBate, and their children, Nicole, Brooke, and Lauren, of Chesterton, IN, Stephanie (Don) Myers and their son, David, of Round Rock, TX, step-sisters; Tracy (Randy) Dalton, and their children, Chloe and Randy of Fordland, MO, Sherri (Bryan) Watson, and their children, Eric, Anna and Sara, of Olathe, KS, Marcy (Harold) McAdams of Belton, MO, and his grandmother, Wilma Norman of Hubbard, IA.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Dean Nichols, Sr., grandparents; Harold Norman, Ethel and Frank Fulton, Martin and Hilda Dreessen, step-brother, Stephen Roger Dreessen, and step-sister, Bethanna Faithe Dreessen.
