Obituary for Muriel Slinker

Muriel  Slinker
Muriel M. Slinker, 87, of Conrad, IA passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012, at the Conrad United Methodist Church, in Conrad. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at the Johnston Funeral Home, in Conrad. Interment will be at the Conrad Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary or the Conrad United Methodist Church.

Muriel was born August 25, 1927 to I Vern and Ruth (Given) Bixby in Marshalltown. She grew up in the Liscomb area attending the Liscomb School. She met Bob Slinker at the Fall Harvest in 1942, they were united in marriage December 12, 1943 in Princeton, MO. After working at the Franzenburg Meat Locker in Conrad for many years she along with her husband purchased the meat locker and ran it together. Muriel was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary where she was a lifetime member for over 60 years serving as President and Treasurer. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Entre Nous Club. Muriel enjoyed sewing rugs for the Iowa Veterans home in Marshalltown. She did a lot of knitting for friends and family. She had a great love for her roses,
gardening, and her grandchildren.

Muriel will be missed by her husband, Bob, two daughters; Joan Gethmann Raum of Gladbrook, Jenifer Murty of Marshalltown, a son; Jack (Kathy) Slinker of Indianola, IA, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James “Jim” Slinker, her parents, and 3 sisters.
